Why use iBeacons

One of the latest innovations to revolutionize the way we shop is iBeacon. The iBeacon software was developed by Apple to get businesses and customers connected in- and around stores. iBeacons are small indoor micro location systems that give signals to smart-phones and tablets via Bluetooth 4 technology. Since 2013 these devices have been fiercely adopted in all micro location aspects and they emit 4 types of signals:

1. Proximity marketing (signals emitted before the customer enters the store)
2. Check-in coupons (once the customer is in the store and based on their location in the store);
3. Additional Info on products
4. Contact less payments

It uses Bluetooth 4.0 – a new format of Bluetooth and does not require devices to be paired.

Instead of using latitude and longitude to define the location, iBeacon uses a Bluetooth low energy signal.
